FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State cross country teams posted the best marks of the season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Logan, Utah. Freshman Erick Garcia led the men's team to a fourth-place finish and junior Roxanne Sellick guided the women's team to a fifth place finish.

"I'm very pleased that both teams qualified for the regionals," said head coach Joe Gonzales. "Everyone ran very well. The women's team averaged 17:56, which is better than what our top runner ran last year at the WAC Championships."

Last year, Zinzi Evans was Fresno State's top runner with a time of 18:17. This season, the Bulldogs had four runners break that time and the top-five all clocked in under 18:26.

Sellick finished eighth overall with a time of 17:19 and sophomore Marissa McPhail placed 10th with a time of 17:28. Both were named second-team All-WAC honorees after finishing in the top-14.

Sophomore Jennifer Hernandez was solid as well, posting a time of 18:11, good for 31st. Senior Meredith Hawkins followed in 33rd with a time of 18:14 and junior Briana Cleary clocked in at 18:26 for 38th place.

Garcia and sophomore Frank Sanders also earned second-team All-WAC recognition. Garcia finished 11th (24:13.24) and Sanders took 12th (24:13.73), finishing only tenths of a second apart. Sophomore Brandon Geis was excellent, placing 19th overall with a time of 24:45.

Senior David Vartanian placed 26th overall with a time of 25:11 while freshman Elijah Carillo was 36th, clocking in at 25:43. The team's average time was 24:49.

The Bulldogs now prepare for the Regionals on Nov. 10 in Eugene, Ore.
