FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team still remains atop first place in the WAC despite a 2-1 loss to San Jose State on Senior Day at Beiden Field. The Bulldogs did take three of four from the Spartans in the series and are 31-25 overall and 19-9 in WAC play. San Jose State improved to 27-23 and 13-14 in conference.

Sunday was the final home game for seniors Clayton Allison, Steve Susdorf, Ryan Overland, Blake Amador, Kris Tomlinson, Brandon Burke, Jason Breckley and Jake Hower.

Fresno State had six hits for the game, coming from Danny Muno, Gavin Hedstrom, Steve Detwiler, Tommy Mendonca, Ryan Overland and Danny Grubb. After six scoreless innings San Jose State scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning off a homerun by Karson Klauer.

The Bulldogs answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Detwiler singled to right field and Mendonca followed with a singled to left-center. Later in the inning, Hedstrom reached base via a San Jose State fielding error that allowed Detwiler to score.

The Bulldogs rally fell short in the bottom of the ninth inning as they had the bases loaded with one out but Anthony Vega earned the save for the Spartans as he retired the final two batters for the Dogs. \

The Bulldogs play their final conference series next weekend when they play four games at Sacramento State.
